After an exhausting week at work, I long to just pack up my bags and head on to the marina. When you’re at sea, it feels as if you are at one with nature. There is nothing that stands in your way; just you, the sea and the sky. Listen to the calming rhythm of the waves, rocking you to sleep and making you forget about the cares of the world.
One weekend, we headed out and set sail. We headed out to the Bay area, to check out what my good friend Larry was bragging about. We berthed at Jack London Square Marina. I was speechless. To put it mildly, I was amazed at how it reminded me of Tiburon. It was an assortment of things, many of the most intriguing places to go are found in the surrounding streets, where the hurly-burly of the wholesale produce market is surrounded by different restaurants, clubs and businesses. If you need anything, or want anything, it’s there. Convenient and hassle free. I spoke to a local and asked for other attractions in and near the Square; I was informed that I was in time for a good farmers’ market (open every Sundays) and there was also an artisan fair (open on weekends). The restaurants range from fast food to elegant fine dining, the music scene is hopping, and with all the bars you can party from one end of the Square to the other. The waterfront’s lively yet uncrowded atmosphere, reasonable hotel and motel rates, and convenience to Oakland airport and the downtowns of both Oakland and San Francisco make it a good place for out-of-towners to stay. It’s like a world no other. So full and brimming with life, and I was taking it all in. I loved every minute of visiting this great place. This got me thinking, visiting Jack London Square is not enough. Why visit, when you can make it your home. I know I’m going to be spending the next few months looking at Oakland real estate, where I’ll purchase my next home. Will you be my neighbor?
