What to Do Before Sailboat Racing – A Small Detail

Large losses and gains are made at the start, when you sailboat comes off the line, you want to have good speed, clear air, be on the preferred side of the course and line, and be on tack. You will go slowly, and you can be lost behind many boats, if you are not doing each of these. It is always to take a good racing start. You must make and formulate a plan, and you need to spend few minutes on plan before starting the race.

Make A Plan And Execute It:

It is really very important for you to make a plan before sailboat racing and stick onto it. You need to make many decisions, because of all the action on the line of starting. Let me tell you an easy way for planning, think in your mind roughly about the plan, and stick to your thoughts, and just work on those thoughts.

Safety Start – Technique:

If you are new sailboat racer, you will find that start is very intimidating, you have to keep all the timing in your mind and you have to think that where you want to be, how fast you have to go, or you are going, and how not to get into any trouble. These things happen every times with the boats around you (up to 100 boats sometimes).Sailing

  • Tack on the starboard, and without moving sit on the spot, constantly look on the areas for sailboats heading on your way, you need to figure out where they will go if there is anyone.
  • If you are on full speed when reaching the line, from most of the fleet, you will sail away, even if you are late, many sailboat racers concentrate to be on the right place (in the start). They will not move but remain on the line, so you can easily sail right past them.
